What if we told you that winter could make you feel alive?

We’ve teamed up with The Travel Project, experts in uncovering the very best the UK has to offer on a brand new series: Do.More. This Winter.

After heading North, East, South, and West of the capital, we’re here to highlight that even in the big city, you don’t need to go far to find adventurous experiences this winter.

4 adventures, all just 2 hours from London.

1. NORTH

STAY:

The Wilding Airfield is a WW2 airfield transformed into a ninety acre rewilded nature reserve, now home to a beautiful treehouse. Considered by us as a true gem, this stay boasts a beautifully designed internal space, with the outside featuring an outdoor bath and your very own pizza oven.

ACTIVITY 1:

Head to Eat The Country where Tom, a seasonal forager, will take you out to learn about some of the edible treasures you can find here in the UK. Spoiler: even in colder months, there are still plenty of ingredients you can get creative with.

ACTIVITY 2:

Take a 20-minute drive to Holme Fen Nature Reserve, the designated site of special scientific interest and lowest land point in mainland UK. With a large Birch forest hosting tracks weaving between the trees, this is a lovely little spot to explore.

2. EAST

STAY:

Elmley Nature Reserve, a 3,300 acre wildlife reserve on the west of the island. This breathtaking slice of Kent is family-run and an absolute gem packed with wildlife and a few small but beautifully designed cabins overlooking the wetlands.

ACTIVITY 1:

Hike the wetland tracks, hugging the side of the island and overlooking miles of Elmley wilderness, followed by a cold water plunge in the lake. After a short walk back to your cabin you can then warm up in style… using the outdoor bath.

ACTIVITY 2:

Take a 35-minute drive along the coast to the seaside town of Whitstable. At this time of year, the usually busy streets and beaches are far more manageable, meaning you can explore this seaside gem in an entirely different light.

3. South

STAY:

The Belle Tout Lighthouse was built in 1832 and boasts 360 views of the surrounding National Park, cliffs, and channel.

ACTIVITY 1:

Head to the National Park's visitor center where you can launch a kayak off a dedicated wharf into the river. From here, paddle a section of the Cuckmere Meanders that winds through these gorgeous wetlands.

ACTIVITY 2:

Embark on the 1.5-hour hike from Beachy Head to Birling Gap. It'll take you along the cliff top affording you some of the best views in the country before dropping you down to water level at the iconic Birling Gap.

4. West

STAY:

Tree Dwellers is truly one of the most unique accommodation spots you'll find. Picture a collection of spaceship-like structures built into the trees of an ancient forest.

ACTIVITY 1:

Enjoy stunning views from the second-highest point in The Cotswolds, Broadway Tower. And whilst you're there, why not take some time to explore the surrounding 200 acres of parkland.

ACTIVITY 2:

Starting at Lower Slaughter with its beautiful old stone cottages, cycle along country lanes through the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, a collection of picturesque villages, and breathtaking landscapes.

After heading North, East, South, and West of London, we’re here to highlight that even in the big city, you don’t need to go far to find adventurous experiences this winter.
